Fairfax Cares Allocation Process
100% of your donation will be used to help your neighbors in need.
All funds collected through Fairfax Cares will be distributed among 18 Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in the primary basic needs provider network that serves the Fairfax-Falls Church community:
- The primary function of these CBOs is to serve the community with basic immediate needs, such as food and shelter.
- They represent the first line of response when a person or a family needs monetary assistance with basic immediate needs, such as payment of rent or a utility bill.
- They work collaboratively and serve identified geographic areas within the community. (Five of the 18 CBOs service the entire geographic area of the Fairfax-Falls Church community and are not listed on the map.)
Close monitoring will be ongoing to determine if any other organization should be considered for addition to the primary basic needs provider network to receive future funds.
Your donation will be distributed where it is needed the most.
The 13 CBOs that serve distinct geographic areas within the community will receive 90% of the collected funds on the basis of a proxy for determining demand for assistance with basic immediate needs:
- The proxy used is a combination of food stamp recipient data by ZIP code and enrollment in the free and reduced lunch program by ZIP code.
- This data will be closely monitored and allocations will be adjusted if demand shifts within the geographic area.
The five CBOs who serve the entire geographic area of the Fairfax-Falls Church community receive equal distributions of the remaining 10% of the collected funds.

Those most in need will benefit from your donation NOW.
Distribution of funds by the Northern Virginia Community Foundation will begin once $10,000 is received by Fairfax Cares. Then, checks will be issued each time the fund receives $20,000 not to exceed more than one payment a month.
