Advisory Committee

 

Purpose

The Fairfax Cares Advisory Committee shall:

  • Publicize to the community the basic needs of residents of Fairfax County, City of Fairfax and the City of Falls Church and the current resource capacity of existing nonprofit and faith-based organizations to meet these needs.
  • Serve as champions to help raise funds to meet the basic needs of residents.
  • Assist and support the in-kind goods and services donations to meet basic needs in collaboration with Volunteer Fairfax, the Fairfax County School Board, and the Northern Virgina Workforce Investment Board.
  • Establish the criteria for use and distribution of funds raised.
  • Establish the allocation process and make recommendations to the Northern Virginia Community Foundation Board regarding the disbursement of the funds raised for organizations providing basic needs assistance to these residents.

Fairfax Cares Operating Committee
An ongoing Operating Committee is established to support the Fairfax Cares Advisory Committee in fulfilling its purpose and to enhance the resource capacity of organizations to meet basic needs. The Operating Committee will:

  • Continue to engage nonprofits and faith-based organizations through continuing use of plenary sessions throughout the campaign and allocation process.
  • Engage nonprofits and faith-based representatives to serve on various committees such as the Communications Committee.
  • Provide the Advisory Committee with technical assistance and support in the fundraising effort.

Membership of the Operating Committee will consist of representatives from the following: 

  • Leadership Fairfax
  • Volunteer Fairfax 
  • Northern Virginia Community Foundation
  • Nonprofit / Faith-based representative (at least 4 representing these sectors)
  • Nonprofit / Faith-based representative
  • Nonprofit / Faith-based representative
  • Nonprofit / Faith-based representative 
  • Fairfax County School Board representative
  • Fairfax County – Office of the County Executive
  • Fairfax County – Office of Public Affairs
  • Fairfax County – Department of Administration for Human Services
  • Fairfax County – Department of Systems Management forHuman Services
  • Fairfax County – Office of Public Private Partnerships

Appointments
Members of the Fairfax Cares Advisory Committee shall be appointed by the chairs of the respective bodies. Terms are for a period of one year with the possibility of reappointment.

Meeting times
Meetings will be convened as necessary.

Decision-making process
The Advisory Committee will make decisions by majority vote of members present.

Signature authority 
The co-chairs, both of whom shall act, shall have signature authority for the Fairfax Cares Advisory Committee.
